Blazing Into August
It's hard to believe there is only 1 month of summer vacation left. Where has the time gone? Oh we know...it's flown by because of all of the fun activities we've had going on in Rockford.
August is no exception.
The Rogue River Blues series continues through the month. Rockford Night Out is coming up and Reds is continuing to run their Pedal Power promotion to raise money for the White Pine Trail.
The Rockford Area Arts Commission has also been pretty busy with Art Capsule and Taste of Rockford. We're anxiously awaiting the announcement of winners. We had a lovely piece featured in the restaurant.
Are you on a local intramural team, church league, head a scout troop or have another organization that has local activities? If so, send us your schedule and we'll be sure to share. Just leave a comment here or on our Facebook fan page. Or send us an email at calendar@rockfordcornerbar.com

Big Bang
It is hard to believe that June is almost over. Where did the time go? I think we were all too busy having fun.
July is fast approaching and one thing that happens quite often around July 4th is FIREWORKS! We just discovered this great website that lists firework displays in the State of Michigan. Here's what we uncovered for Kent County.
Rogue River Blue Series continues the month of July on Tuesday nights AND America's Favorite Farm Market will be open on Saturday throughout the summer. Check out this YouTube video from the June 12 performance. The grass is green, the water looks cool and the music is smooooooth.

BTW, to celebrate the Blue series, we're offering a Chicago Dog and to get you in the mood...here's the Blues Brothers in the House of Blues singing "Sweet Home Chicago." See you on Tuesdays!

Woo Hoo!
The June calendar is up and as usual...there is a LOT going on. America's Favorite Farmer's Market will be open on Saturdays. Start of Summer is coming up the end of this week.
Here's what we have scheduled for Start of Summer 2012:
Friday:
Corner Bar Beer Tent will be open until midnight and feature the rock band "The Outer Vibe" from 8 - midnight.
Saturday:
Corner Bar Beer Tent will be open until midnight and feature country band, "The Bronk Bros." from 7 - midnight.
Don't forget Rockford Rotary's Big Daddy Duck Race. We've been training our duck for weeks now. We think all of the chili he's consumed will give him that extra "kick" to win this highly contested race to raise money for Rockford reading programs. If you haven't purchased tickets yet...we have them. Buy a $5 duck ticket and get free Corner Bar donuts!
Finally...just for fun: The anthem that defines our lives this time of year:

Heading into Summer
The last week of May is relatively quite but that's okay...we all need to rest up for the explosion of activities coming in June.
We are slowly but surely finding information from various organizations about Rockford community events but we hope you'll do your part too. If you are a local church, scout group, sports team, civic organization etc and you have an upcoming community event that you'd like us to help you share, please email us at calendar@rockfordcornerbar.com or leave a note here in the comments.
Also if you haven't already, look in the left hand column and click "follow" under the Networked Blogs banner. If you follow us before June 1, you'll automatically be entered into a drawing for a catered Corner Bar event for 30. Just think, your summer party could have all the fun of a Corner Bar event and for FREE!

School is winding down and summer is ramping up. And as always, it's a busy busy week in Rockford.
The Chamber has several events on the calendar AND Odyssey of the Mind World Finals are this week in Ames Iowa. Here's a big shout out to the teams from Rockford who will be competing. You make this city so proud!
Rockford Rotary meets on Tuesday. We are looking forward to participating in their Big Daddy Duck Race during Start of Summer to raise money for literacy initiatives in the community. We recommend "liking" their Big Daddy Duck Facebook fan page Some of our competitors are over there talking smack but we know that ducks who train as Hot Dog Hall of Fame Champions are going to win this hotly contested race.
Speaking of "liking"...there are only two weeks left for you to enter our drawing for a catered Corner Bar event for 30. It's so easy, just look over in the left hand column on this page and click the "follow" button under Networked Blogs. You'll be automatically entered.
Have a great week everyone. Don't forget...we'd love to put your community event on our calendar so please email us at calendar@rockfordcornerbar.com or leave a comment on this blog.

It's A DATE!
Welcome to the Rockford Corner Bar's community events calendar.
We realized that as we were taking note of local events for our own staffing needs, we were compiling a pretty comprehensive event calendar for the City of Rockford. We love this community so much we thought we would try to assemble a "one stop" online spot for publicizing community events.
As we work on this project, we'd like to be able to include every event in Rockford. We're looking for input from civic organizations, church organizations, sports teams, school groups, etc. But, to do this well, we need your help.
If your group has an upcoming event, leave us a comment on this blog or send us an email to fuzzyredrobe@yahoo.com (We've got our developer working on a special calendar email address but in the meantime, our friend Cindy is happy to coordinate your event information)
We guarantee there will be some growing pains with this project so please bear with us as we work out the kinks, dot the "i's" and cross the "t's" We hope that in about 6 months, this calendar will be self-perpetuating. We are encouraging local groups to send us their event information and we'll use our social media channels to help spread the word.
It's a win/win for everyone. Keeping a thorough and accurate calendar lets us know how many people are likely to be in town on any given day and you have the power of the Corner Bar's social media reach to help publicize your event.**
**We will use some discretion. We couldn't possibly include every home jewelry or Tupperware party but we are interested in activities that involve the whole community.
